An engineer uses information and standards (principles) to design, construct, and analyze software products. Engineering: Engineering is the process of designing and developing something (like machines, structures, softwares, etc.) using best practices, principles, and methods. In a computer system, software controls, integrates, and manages the hardware components. Software: Generally, software is a collection of programming codes, procedures, rules, documents, and data that perform a particular task and fulfill a particular requirement. It generally comprises two words, i.e., Software + Engineering = Software Engineering. Software Engineering implies a number of things but, to truly understand it, you need to understand each element of the term. Now, software engineering has evolved into a fully-fledged engineering discipline recognized for its in-depth study and research. Over time, it evolved into a business model where high-quality software can be produced cheaply, quickly, and with little maintenance. The term “ Software Engineering” was first used in 1968 at the NATO Software Engineering Conference. Importance of Software Characteristics in Software Engineering.
